You have a website. The design is modern, the content sounds convincing, and everything works as it should. Yet, when you search for keywords related to your business, your website is nowhere on Google’s first page. Sound familiar?
You’re not alone.
The fact is that more than 90% of all websites never make it to the first page of Google search results. And if you’re not on the first page, for most users, it’s as if you don’t exist. Google shows results for thousands of similar pages, and only those that are technically correct, content quality and optimized for search engines (SEO) have a chance to appear among the first.
In our digital agency, through work with clients from Osijek, Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and all of Croatia, we regularly encounter the same problem: technical errors, poor SEO settings and unoptimized content.
What’s worse is that most website owners don’t even know these errors exist because no one has ever explained to them how Google actually “sees” their site. Visually everything may look perfect, but if Google can’t understand your site or considers that it doesn’t provide relevant information, it simply won’t display you.
Below we bring you the Most Common SEO Mistakes that we discover almost daily during SEO audits. These errors have a huge impact on your website’s visibility, but the good news is that most can be fixed relatively quickly and easily.
If you have a website and want a better position on Google, this list is just for you. If it’s all a bit confusing, contact us at Anos Media where we regularly perform these audits and error corrections.

Website loading speed is one of the most important SEO factors today. Google has confirmed multiple times that loading speed directly affects position in search results, and users are even more impatient.
If your site loads for longer than 3 seconds, more than 50% of visitors will leave it without looking at anything. This means higher bounce rate, worse user experience and ultimately lower Google ranking.
Slow site = fewer visitors, less visibility and loss of potential clients.
All optimizations won’t help if your hosting is too slow. We use fast hosting on servers in the European Union optimized for visitors from Croatia and the EU. Choose hosting that uses:
Recommendation: if your site targets the Croatian market, choose hosting that has data centers as close to your users as possible – e.g. in Zagreb, Frankfurt or Vienna. If you’re targeting the American market, look for hosting in the USA. Many hosting providers have servers all over the world, so you need to pay attention to this.
Images are often the biggest “culprits” for a slow site. If you have a WordPress site, use tools such as:
Caching allows the page to be stored in the user’s browser so it doesn’t load again every time. Lazy loading means images load only when visible on screen, which significantly speeds up initial page loading.
For WordPress you can use:
Google’s tool PageSpeed Insights will show you:
Tip: aim for a “Performance score” to be above 80 for mobile devices. Anything around 90 and above is great.
Loading speed is not just a technical detail because it affects user experience, SEO, conversions and revenue. If you want better Google ranking, more inquiries and satisfied users, speed must be a priority.

Google has been using mobile-first indexing for years, which means it evaluates the mobile version of the site. If it displays poorly on mobile, you lose points. This is very important and the site must not be optimized only for computers because most visitors today use mobile devices and that’s why Google gives it great importance and a site without it won’t even be ranked highly on search engines.
Title tag and Meta description are often neglected, yet they play a key role in whether a user will click on your result on Google or on the competition. For Google, the title tag is one of the main SEO signals that tells it what your page is actually about. For the user, these are the first elements they see when searching for something online. If the title and description are unclear, generic or missing altogether, then there’s a good chance the user will simply skip your result.

Headings aren’t just for appearance, they help Google understand the page content.
Google doesn’t like pages that don’t have enough information or have the same content as others. Although this can be a lengthy process for each page and post, it’s important to have good descriptions of services and products and to include keywords. Never copy content from other sites because for Google that’s duplicate content.
ALT text helps Google “see” images and contributes to ranking in image results. Although no one wants to add descriptions for 100 images, it’s important that this is done because it also helps users find you on search engines.
Links that lead to non-existent pages frustrate users and Google. If you’ve changed or deleted something, check the entire site to make sure you don’t have links to non-existent pages or images anywhere.
This is another thing that’s beyond doubt today and must definitely be done. If a site doesn’t have a secure connection (HTTPS), Google may mark it as “insecure” and when a visitor wants to come to the site they’ll get a warning that the site is insecure. If that’s the case, it’s better not to have a site at all.
If you’re a local business, you need to appear when someone searches for “[service] + [city]”. Local SEO or optimizing for local search is most important for small businesses and trades that conduct their activities mostly in some territory of a city, county or country.
Without internal links, Google has difficulty understanding how your pages are connected, and users have a harder time finding important information. In all posts, put links that lead to other locations on your site. For example, if you’re writing about Website Development, then put a link to that part of your site that talks about it.
